Is there a best method to teach a foreign language?
Read Prabhu's text in the lin below* and do the following activity:

Write at least 10 lines trying to explain why the author of the text states it categorically. Does not he show any kind of preference for any method/approach?

  1. At first when I saw such article I thought it would come as a revolution or some unknown reality. But it just made clear what I already thought about the matter.
    There is no perfect method, a method that you can use to teach in all the possible moments of a class.
    There is no absolute truth about any method either, it might change depending on the class itself, some pupils can't even get involved in some methods we already saw in the course, I know it, 'cause I tried.
    But don't get the writer or me wrong, there are lots of uses for all the methods and we can always work more than one.
    One is not suposed to focus on only one method, that create a very strong line of limitation to the work. One must work with the problems of a class, and if you priorize any method, you might end up creating some dificulties yourself, take a look at the schools today, they tend to priorize one method for a wide number of reasons... now check their classes, are they any good?

  2. if we consider our work as a professional search for the best method that, when found, will replace all other methods, we just can not work toward a goal unattainable but interpreting the nature of teaching as a set of procedures alone can carry a guarantee of learning. Perhaps the best method varies from one teacher to another. There may be some truth in the
    method used for each teacher. The search for a best method should perhaps give rise to a search for ways in which teachers and specialists could more widely interact with one another so that the teaching could become more widely real.

  4. According to what I understood, the author says that there are many methods to teach a foreign language, each one for a reality, for a different context.
    It is said that when we say that there isn't a single method to teach everyone is to say that there are different methods that are best for different people, but all depends on what "best" means, I mean, we have to consider factors like social situation, educational organisation, teacher-related factors and learner-related factors and some others.
    He also says that the best method varies from one teacher to another, and each teacher has to operate with hir or her own sense of plausibility, promoting his or her best as a teacher.

  5. what I realized it was that the text want to show that there is no a better method to teache a second language, everything depends the way, how and where you teache.
    The perfect method will depend the context.
    Each method has your value.
    Wew just have to know our students for apply the best method to them.

  6. According to the author, no method is unique or is one better than another, we must take into account the needs of individual pupils and analyze what is best to use. For there are social changes that can influence their learning, and factors related to your personality and your interest in learning. I think the author tries to adapt the methods that are linked to student motivation, because he considers the interest and profile of the student to develop their work as best as possible, not using one method over creating your own method.

Lendo esse texto, lembrei-me de uma entrevista que vi da Antonieta Celani onde ela diz que um aluno só vai aprender inglês se o professor entender a sua necessidade, a sua bagagem cultural, além dos seus interesses para com a língua. São muitos os métodos de se ensinar um idioma, e se o professor conseguir entender de que forma isso será melhor pro aluno, o processo ensino/aprendizagem acontece de fato. Não há receita certa a ser seguida, mas com certeza tem algumas dicas que devem ser levadas em conta, como por exemplo a questão do professor dever estar sempre atualizado e inovando o ensino para que os alunos sejam motivados a estudar um segundo idioma. Digamos que usar um pouco de cada método seja uma boa escolha.

DE acordo com o texto do autor, o melhor método é o que deve ser adaptado para cada ambiente escolar, ou seja, o professor deve se adaptar ao contexto dos seus alunos, para que possa haver aprendizado na área de línguas. O professor além de se adaptar as condições estruturais da escola ele deve fazer uma parceria de amizade entre os alunos para que o método que ele vá utilizar seja eficaz e tenha um grande sucesso de ensino e aprendizado.

  9. The text shows that what we have already discussed at the class, that there is not one best method to teach english, that the best method would be a blending of methods. The author explains about the necessity of change the method for every kind of context and student, and that one method can be good for one teacher, the first teacher, can be not so good for another teacher the seccond, lets say that he prefers another method, but the first method and the all the methods are still going to be necessary for the first and second teacher depending of the pupils and situations. As we have already seen at the class, we need to use parts of every method to teach english with effience at all the kinds of contexts.

  10. The author explains that the best way to learn a second language depends on how it is taught. I agree with the author, and I believe that the teacher should seek the best way to serve the needs of their student. He also says that each method depends on each teacher.

  12. Para o autor é na sala de aula que vamos descobrir o melhor método de ensino, conhecendo os alunos e se adequando ao ambiente e aos materiais disponíveis. Não existe o método certo, isso dependerá dos indivíduos envolvidos e a realidade. O professor pode criar vários métodos de ensino e mudá-los no decorrer de sua experiência em sala de aula, inovando e atualizando o que sabe para conseguir conquistar a atenção de seus alunos.

There isn’t a perfect method to teacher or to learn English, there are a lot of methods that works well, all depends, depends of a sociological, cultural and psychological around that students lives. All the methods has them particularities, they works well with a kind of person and doesn’t work so well with on others. A student of languages needs a special method, he has to search a method that is more appropriated for him and try to learn with this method.
    Doesn’t exist a perfect method, we have to know the best method for us.

É na prática ou seja, na sala de aula que o professor saberá como utizar e qual método vai ser utizado,penso que não existe apenas um unico método, o professor pode ultizar vários metodos, e vai tormando experiência e se inovando para assim pôder prender a atenção dos alunos, que isso é de fato o mais difícil atualmente.

Raimundo Nonato: I don believe there is a best method to teach, because it depends of a lot of reasons, like the social context of the student, the goals of this one and the kind of course focused. It is necessary to think in the method before ministrating it and adapt it to the reallity thatś being worked on, and considerating that the same method may not be succesful in differents contexts.
